About this contractor invoice template
A contractor invoice lists what you are charging for on a job: labor, materials, subcontractor work, equipment and any permits or fees. The lines start with those headings and no prices, so you only keep what applies.
Enter hours or units as the quantity and your price as the rate. The amount, subtotal, discount, tax and balance are worked out for you. Put a deposit you already received in the deposit / paid box and the balance due prints underneath.
This is a simple invoice. It is not a progress-billing form. If a stage payment is due, make one invoice per stage and show earlier payments in the deposit / paid box.
Questions
How do I show a deposit I already received?
Type the amount in the Deposit / paid box under the totals. It comes off the total and the balance due is printed below it.
Can I add markup to materials?
This template does not calculate markup. Enter the price you charge as the rate.
Should I put my license number on it?
Many states require contractor licence numbers on paperwork, and the rules differ by state. The license # box is optional, so check what applies to you. This is not legal advice.
Does it work out sales tax for me?
No. Sales tax rules and rates differ by state and by item, so you type your own rate or leave it blank. Nothing is looked up. This is not tax or accounting advice.
