About this job quoting template

Use it to work a job up from the site visit to a signed price. The scope box holds what you measured and agreed, the lines cover labor, materials from your takeoff, subcontractors, equipment rental, permits and a contingency line if you use one, and the totals add up exactly.

How to fill it in

  1. Add your business details once.
  2. Enter the site visit date and who prepared the quote.
  3. In the scope box, write the measurements and what the job includes and excludes.
  4. Price labor as hours times rate, then materials, subs, rental and permits. Delete the contingency line if you do not use one.
  5. Set a valid-until date, add terms, then print or save a PDF for the customer to sign.

If the scope changes after the customer accepts, write it up on a change order. For a shorter one-page quote, use the contractor quote template.

Questions

What is a contingency line?

An allowance for things you cannot see before you start. Some contractors show it, some build it into their prices, and some leave it out. Delete the line if you do not use one.

Is this a quote or an estimate?

It is set up as a quote. For an approximate price, use the estimate template, which labels the total Estimated total.

How are the totals worked out?

Each line is quantity times rate, rounded to the cent. The subtotal is the sum of the lines. A percent discount comes off the subtotal, tax is added at the rate you type, and any deposit or amount paid comes off to give the balance due. Leave the quantity blank for a flat price.

Does it work out sales tax for me?

No. Sales tax rules and rates differ by state and by item, so you type your own rate or leave it blank. Nothing is looked up. This is not tax or accounting advice.
