About this plumbing quote template
A quote for plumbing repairs, replacements and new work. It starts with lines for labor, fixtures and fittings, pipe and materials, larger parts such as a water heater or valve, a permit or inspection fee, and removal of old fixtures. Each line is quantity times rate and the total works itself out.
How to fill it in
- Add your business details and plumbing license number once.
- Fill in the quote number, date and valid-until date.
- Describe the job in the scope box: what you will replace or repair, the location, and what is not included.
- Price each line, and list the fixture or heater make and model so the customer knows what they are getting.
- Add warranty and payment terms in your own words, then print or save a PDF for the customer to sign.
What a written quote should include
- Your business name, address, phone and license number.
- A description of the work.
- Materials and equipment by brand, model, size and color.
- Allowances for items the customer will choose later, with the budget for each.
- The total price, estimated start and completion dates, and a payment schedule tied to the work completed.
- Who gets and pays for permits.
- How changes will be handled (in writing, on a change order).
- The warranty: what it covers, who honors it and for how long.
- Clean-up and debris removal, and what you will not do (exclusions).
- Signatures from both of you, with no blank spaces left.
That list comes from the FTC’s advice on hiring a contractor, plus California and New York home improvement law. Some states also require a lien notice or a cancellation notice.
Deposit rules by state
Some states, such as California, cap how much you can take as a deposit. Pick your state before you fill in the deposit box.
General information, not legal advice. We have only checked California, New York and Florida. Rules change, so confirm with your state licensing board or a lawyer.
When the job is done, bill it on the plumbing invoice template. If the scope changes partway through, use a change order.
Questions
What should a plumbing quote include?
What you will do and where, the fixtures or parts with make and model, labor, any permit, what is not included, and how long the price holds.
Can I use it as a plumbing estimate?
Yes. Change the title to Estimate in Step 2, or use the estimate template, which labels the total Estimated total.
How are the totals worked out?
Each line is quantity times rate, rounded to the cent. The subtotal is the sum of the lines. A percent discount comes off the subtotal, tax is added at the rate you type, and any deposit or amount paid comes off to give the balance due. Leave the quantity blank for a flat price.
Does it work out sales tax for me?
No. Sales tax rules and rates differ by state and by item, so you type your own rate or leave it blank. Nothing is looked up. This is not tax or accounting advice.
