About this fire sprinkler inspection checklist

Use it to record routine sprinkler system checks between contractor visits: gauge readings, valve positions, heads and clearance, the fire department connection (FDC) and waterflow alarms. Pair it with the fire alarm inspection checklist.

Follow your local code and manufacturer instructions; this is a general checklist.

Questions

How often should fire sprinklers be inspected?

NFPA 25, as adopted locally, sets weekly, monthly, quarterly, annual and longer intervals depending on the component and system type. Your authority having jurisdiction (AHJ) and insurer decide what applies to your building.

Is this an NFPA 25 inspection form?

No. It is an educational checklist for owners and maintenance staff. Inspections, tests and maintenance required by NFPA 25 should be done by qualified personnel and recorded on the form your AHJ accepts.

What should I do before a waterflow test?

Call the monitoring company and put the system on test, tell occupants, and make sure the drain discharge is safe. Call again afterward and confirm the panel is back to normal.
