About this walk-in cooler checklist

Use it as a walk-in cooler or walk-in freezer preventive maintenance checklist. Write box temperature, suction and discharge pressures, superheat, subcooling, amps and defrost settings in the blanks, then tick each check.

Questions

What temperature should a walk-in cooler and freezer hold?

The FDA Food Code calls for cold-held food at 41°F or below, so coolers are commonly set around 35–38°F. Freezers are commonly run at 0°F or below. Record the design and actual box temperature on every visit.

How often should a walk-in be serviced?

Quarterly preventive maintenance is common, with condenser coils cleaned more often in greasy or dusty kitchens. Follow the equipment manufacturer and any service agreement.

Where do I write pressures and superheat?

Fill in the blanks in the Readings section. Tick Needs attention when a reading is out of range and add a note in the Notes column.
